Many other surface mapping companies rely on technology that can’t adequately differentiate between obstructions such as vegetation and other types of problem areas on sites. Our cost-effective, yet results-driven application of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanning enables for unprecedented clarity using industry-leading Riegl VUX-1 UAV and LR sensors, the first to be deployed nationwide on UAVs by Aethon in Canada. Collecting high-resolution topographical data custom-focused to site-specific needs and boasting quick transferability from UAVs to helicopters, LiDAR enables for 3D feature analysis with precise data measurements that can be closely calculated and reported through GNSS and laser metadata.
LiDAR’s creation of contour maps and bare earth/full feature models enables clients to capture precise real-time ground data with or without vegetation cover using multi-echo technology. It is a cost-effective, quick, and deeply customizable form of data collection, ideal for capturing infrastructure such as power lines and building features.
RGB imagery involves the process of capturing multiple high-resolution images to build a comprehensive and detailed map of an area. Complete with optimized vibration isolation and L1/L2 RTK-ready direct georeferencing, our camera systems provide clients with a highly detailed picture of a specified area.
Collectively, this means that there will be reduced field time, lower acquisition costs, and a more efficient workflow. Clients can expect results in a quick and efficient manner, and we can also generate point cloud data from collected RGB imagery for basic volumetric or topographic analysis.

Aethon's Proprietary Renegade UAV
Aethon’s UAV (drone) systems are regarded as leading-edge aerial and surface surveillance machines. Featuring mobile and rapid deployment capabilities, GPS waypoint autonomous navigation, integrated direct geo-referencing, and a flight time of 1-2 hours, they, named by us and patented as the Renegade, are workhorses inside and out. Specially designed to carry our top-of-the-line LiDAR high-resolution imaging system, our UAVs boast an 11kg payload weight and maximum take-off weight of 35kg.
As opposed to requesting a full-scale aircraft that cost thousands of dollars per hour of flight time for surveillance needs, our UAVs, which are transported by road vehicle directly to the site, offer a far more cost-effective, quicker, and more detail-oriented solution.

When a site surveillance project is just too big for a UAV, our technology is engineered to work in manned aircraft situated close to the project site. We have integrated our modular system with two types of manned aircraft that can be specially customized for all client needs to maximize detail, cost-effectiveness, or speed of service. Our Bell 206, AS350 and Cessna 206 aircraft are designed for mobilization in as little as 72 hours, with our Bell 206 helicopter, used in over 50% of contracted projects. Combined with Riegl VUX-1LR LIDAR and our suite of camera sensors, these highly precise surveillance aircraft include our Novatel GNSS, 360-degree imagery, and standard nadir RGB imagery systems for simultaneous capture and ultra high-resolution mapping.

Our mobile mapping technology incorporates our thoroughly field-tested and efficient LiDAR system to provide high-resolution infrastructural mapping to clients in a variety of environments. Municipalities as well as oil and gas industries are adopting this technology to create more cohesive and detailed scans of sites, resulting in quicker planning and increased cost-effectiveness.
With a single side-by-side vehicle scan of an infrastructural element such as a road or sign, the collected piece of data can be re-used in multiple departments and implemented in all sorts of forms of analysis, minimizing time spent out in the field. Mobile mapping is perfectly suitable for every type of scan imaginable, including that of hydro lines, street signs, building facades, and structural components.
Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS)

Our application of BVLOS (otherwise known as beyond visual line of sight) involves enhancing UAV inspection effectiveness beyond what the naked eye can see. Aethon is continually striving to test and innovate with this new and as-yet industry-wide unimplemented technology through various research and development initiatives, which is resulting in the creation of our own proprietary technology for satellite communications. Despite our confidentiality on the subject of BVLOS progression at this time, clients will be pleased to learn that we’re working closely with Transport Canada on a regular basis to continue to push boundaries and open up a whole new world for UAV surveillance.
